SPOKANE, WA · DOL HEARINGS
REQUEST WITHIN 7 DAYS
A DOL hearing is an administrative hearing where you can challenge the Department of Licensing’s decision to suspend or revoke your license after a DUI arrest. It is separate from your criminal case in court.
A hearing is not automatic — you must ask for one. The request must be made within 7 days of your arrest (or of receiving the DOL’s notice of suspension, if later), and a hearing fee applies. If the request is not made on time, the suspension generally begins automatically.
Requesting a hearing gives you a chance to challenge the suspension and also gives your lawyer an early look at the evidence in your case. If you miss the deadline, other options — such as an ignition interlock license — may still be available.

Hearings are usually held by phone or video before a DOL hearing officer, who reviews the arrest report and testing records and decides whether the suspension should stand.
Chris Bugbee reviews the officer’s report, the testing records and the legal requirements the DOL must meet before your hearing.
As a former prosecutor with 30+ years of criminal law experience, he knows where these cases are weakest.
WHAT TO KNOW
The DOL must show that the legal requirements for a suspension were met. Gaps in the paperwork or the procedure can lead to the suspension being set aside.
The hearing can also preserve testimony and evidence that may matter later in your criminal case.
Missing the 7-day deadline usually means losing the chance to challenge the suspension.
